Bruce R. Vacca

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bruce R. Vacca, who passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the age of 76 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY.

Bruce was born on May 8, 1950, in Schenectady, NY, to Salvator Vacca and Dorthy (Halavin) Vacca. He grew up in Schenectady and graduated from Linton High School in 1968. He later began a career as a police officer, dedicating 16 years to the force and then became an Area Supervisor with Wackenhut Corporation, and then Allied, until he retired in 2023.

Bruce was known for his humor. He had this innate ability to remember dates and hit songs (when they were popular, who sang them, etc.). He enjoyed watching and recording movies (back when that was a thing) and he often created his own cd playlists of hit songs by year. He found great joy in watching baseball, specifically the Yankees, and loved to watch his grandsons play sports.

He is survived by his saintly ex-wife: Katy (Harshorne) Vacca who stayed by his side up until his last breath, his three amazing and successful children: Leanne Bailey (Keegan), Meghan D’Alessandro (Justin) and Nicholas Vacca who will miss their dad so very much, his grandchildren (the start of his very own baseball team): Dominic, Nico, and Kayce who loved their grandpa so very much, his family members; (brother) David Vacca (Kathy), (nephews) Herb Goggins, Greg Goggins and (niece) Debbie.

He was preceded in death by parents Sal and Dorothy Vacca, and his sister Elaine Goggins. There will be no funeral services per his request. He will be buried with his father and mother at Parkview Cemetery in Schenectady.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you drink an iced cold beer, watch a Yankees game or drive around with music blaring from your car in his honor. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to caregivers, hospice staff, and the medical team at Ellis Hospital for their compassion and support.

Bruce will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives were touched by him. His laughter will forever fill the room and his wit will never be outnumbered.
