Don Robert (Bob) Lane, 90, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Don Robert (Bob) Lane was born on July 23, 1935, in South Valley, NY, to Don B. Lane, Sr. and Margaret (Schwab) Lane. He graduated from Worcester Central High School in 1954 and SUNY Cobleskill in 1957. After completing his education, he began a 37-year career as an electrical engineer at IBM, retiring in 1994. From 1958 to 1960, he served in the U.S. Army, completing basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and was stationed on Governors Island in New York City, where he worked as a computer engineer. Before retiring from IBM, he co-founded C&L Construction with his longtime friend and neighbor, Francis Cummings—a testament to his tireless work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.

Don was a man who lived to serve others. He was known for his unwavering generosity, his deep compassion, and his readiness to help anyone in need. Whether it was mowing lawns, snow blowing, fixing things around the house, or simply checking in on neighbors and friends, Don always put others before himself. He had a tool for every job and a heart big enough to hold a whole community.

Even in his later years, Don remained active and engaged. He could often be found at the corner garage talking cars, visiting the Canvas Shop to chat with his good friend Donnie Tifo, or spending time with his long-time cherished friend, Anthony Roman. His bright red Ford F-150 Limited was a familiar sight around town—a symbol of his enduring presence and care.

He was a proud member of the Worcenevus hunting camp of Stratford, NY, for 60 years and the NRA.

Don is survived by his children, Susan Lane (Dale Clark) and Thomas Lane (Carin Lane), and his beloved grandchildren: Jacob Lane, Dylan Lane, and Sophia Lane. He also leaves behind his half-siblings Melodie (Lane) VanAlstyne and Don B. Lane, Jr.

Those who knew Don were blessed by his kindness, humility, and strength. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the love he gave so freely. His spirit will continue to inspire and uplift all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Calling hours will be Friday, August 29, 2025, from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Gleason Funeral Home, 730 Union St., Schenectady, NY. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Worcester, New York, following the calling hours.

Though Don's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his light will forever shine in our hearts. May his memory be a blessing, and may we carry forward his legacy of kindness and compassion in all that we do.
