Gerald M. Lazarek

NISKAYUNA, NY: Gerald “Jerry” Lazarek, 84, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Ellis Hospital. Jerry was born in Queens, NY, to the late Joseph and Helen Wojtas Lazarek. He graduated from the University of Michigan, receiving a bachelor’s and master’s degree and RPI where he received his PhD.

Jerry worked at KAPL in Niskayuna, NY, for over 35 years.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Rita Lazarek, three children, Dan (Natalie) Lazarek, Joe (Kathy) Lazarek and Steve Lazarek, nine grandchildren, Casey, Megan, Matt, Finley, Jackson, Elle, Elin, Lily-Grace and London Rose, brother-in law, John Smith, sister-in-law, Kay Smith, several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at the Gleason Funeral Home from 4 until 6 p.m. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, September 17, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, Rosa Road, Schenectady. Burial will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, following the mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
