Obituary

Jacqueline Ann "Jackie" Apollo of Schenectady, New York passed away on Monday March 16, 2026, at St. Peter's Hospice Inn in Albany surrounded by her loving family.  Jackie was born on July 11, 1945, in Schenectady New York to the late Ralph and Margaret (DiCerbo) DeRizzo.

Jackie married the love of her life, Mark, on April 23, 1966, and together they built a family filled with love and laughter.  Jackie expressed her love and creativity best doing the things she loved which included cooking for her family, sewing (and constantly repairing) stuffed animals for her grandchildren, doing crafts with her grandchildren, arranging flowers and shopping.  Oh, did she love shopping!  She also loved the annual big family vacations in Wildwood with all her grandchildren, where they would spend all day at the beach and nights eating ice cream and playing board games- especially Mexican Train. Family was a priority to Jackie, and she was at every one of her grandchildren's awards ceremonies, concerts, parades, games, races, proms, and graduations. You name it, she was there, usually wearing a sparkly shirt and perfectly matched jewelry. Her grandchildren loved to see her every single time.  While she will not be able to attend future graduations, ceremonies, games and their weddings in person, they will continue to feel her love and presence as they meet new milestones in their lives.

Jackie and Mark were married just shy of 60 years and were together for more, and during that time they did practically everything together.  While family lovingly called them "the Bickersons" their partnership was built on a foundation of love and respect, and it was clear to anyone who knew them how much they meant to each other.

Jackie will be deeply missed and forever remembered as an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, coworker and friend.

In addition to her parents, Jackie was predeceased by her beloved brother Daniel DeRizzo, her cherished grandson Mario David DeMarco, and dear grandnephew Aidan Shane. She is survived by her loving husband and constant companion of almost 60 years Mark Apollo; her beloved children Wendy (Dave) DeMarco, Mark (Kathleen Ford), and Keri (Seth) Stark; her grandchildren Mia DeMarco, Hannah (Aidan) DeMarco, Andrew Apollo, Anthony (Dominica) Santor, Mattison Stark and Sophia Stark; her brother Ralph (Karen) DeRizzo, and sister Phyllis (Rick) Shane; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and her dear goddaughters Terry and Jamie.

Our family is especially grateful to Dr. Mina Sun, her staff and the staff at St. Peter's Hospice Inn for the extraordinary and compassionate care they provided which allowed our beloved wife, mother and grandmother to live out her last months and pass with dignity and in peace.

Family and friends are welcome to join her family in celebrating Jackie on Saturday April 18, 2026, at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 3500 Carman Road, Schenectady, NY, 12303.  Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11 am, followed by a Memorial Mass which begins at 11 am.
