NISKAYUNA – Jane M. Susich, 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center.

Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Jane was the daughter of the late Carmen and Lygia Maddocks Massimiano. A devoted educator, Jane began her career teaching Spanish at Pittsfield Junior High and High School before continuing in the Capital Region at the former St. Paul the Apostle School and later at St. Kateri Tekakwitha School (previously known as St. Helen's).

Later in life, Jane transitioned from the classroom to a career in beauty, working at the Macy's cosmetics counter. There, she was known for her warmth, style, and ability to make lasting friendships with her customers.

Jane had a deep love for the Christmas season and delighted in creating handmade ornaments, wreaths, and candy balls for the holiday she cherished most. Her strong faith was evident in her service as a Eucharistic Minister and lector at St. John the Evangelist Church, where she also volunteered with the RCIA program.

A proud alumna of UMass Amherst, Jane was a founding member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She also contributed her time as an announcer at swim meets for the Edison Club in Rexford and enjoyed the art of calligraphy.

She was predeceased by her brother, Carmen Massimiano; Jane is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Erwin Susich; her children, Liz (Mark) Yanus of Niskayuna and David (Laura) Susich of Boston, MA; and her cherished grandchildren, Erica Yanus, Katherine Susich, and Matthew Susich. She is also survived by her nephews, Jonathan Foote and Thomas Foote.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, July 28, 2025, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Gleason Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 noon at St. John the Evangelist Church, 810 Union Street, Schenectady. Jane will be laid to rest at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
