John Joseph Claughsey, born on July 27, 1943, in Albany, New York, passed away after a life defined by service, dedication, and devotion to family.

John was the beloved son of Joseph P. and Margaret Claughsey. A proud graduate of Philip Schuyler High School, Class of 1962, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. During his military service, he served aboard the USS Rich (DD-820) during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, John worked for New York State before joining the Albany Fire Department. In 1968, he became a Schenectady Police Officer. Through years of dedicated service, professionalism, and commitment to his community, he rose through the ranks and retired in 1989 as an Investigator.

John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rosalie A. Claughsey. Together they shared a wonderful life filled with love, laughter, and many memorable vacations to the Jersey Shore.

John was also active in civic affairs and served as Chairman of the Conservative Party in Schenectady County. He believed strongly in community involvement and was respected by those who knew and worked with him.

He was predeceased by his sister, Anna (Tootie) Pariseau and his brother-in-law, Robert Adamec.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Bender; his sister-in-law, JoAnn Adamec and several nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated, Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant St., Schenectady. Burial will be private following the mass. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
