Kathleen Rose Isabella, age 77, passed away unexpectedly on June 26, 2025, in her beloved hometown of Schenectady, NY.
Born on March 27, 1948, to Dr. Hugo and Kathleen Isabella, Kathy was a beacon of faith and kindness throughout her life. She was a life-long resident of the Mont Pleasant neighborhood and attended Pleasant Valley Elementary School and McKinley Jr. High before graduating from Mont Pleasant High School in 1966.
Known for her brilliant mind and compassionate soul, Kathy, attended the College of Saint Rose, graduating in 1970 with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education then received her Master's Degree in Education from Russell Sage College in 1974.
She began her esteemed career in education on September 1, 1970, as a kindergarten teacher at Pleasant Valley Elementary School. For decades, she impacted thousands of kids in the same neighborhood she grew up in until she retired from PV on June 30, 2004.
Kathy dedicated her teaching life as a difference maker of kids, making significant contributions to the field of education and leaving a lasting impact.
She was predeceased in death by her parents, Dr. Hugo V. Isabella and Kathleen Casey Isabella; grandparents, Nicola and Rose Isabella and William and Audrey Casey; sister-in-law Mary Ann Hogan; and many aunts and uncles. She is survived by her five siblings, Thomas (late Mary Ann Hogan, late Marion Ausfeld), Paul (Lori), Karin (Wayde Seaburg), John (Sheila) and Victor (Peggy) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her in her role as a daughter, sister, teacher and friend. She worshipped at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, St. John's and, more recently, St. Luke's.
Known for her loyalty, compassion, honesty, trustworthiness, Kathy devoted her life to our Mom and Dad which in itself says so much about who she was, what she stood for and where she came from. Without question, Kathy will be missed by her family, friends and colleagues.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 7:30 a.m. - 9 a.m. at St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, 1241 State St., Schenectady. A mass of Christian burial will immediately follow at 9 a.m. and interment will be held at St. John's Cemetery on Brandywine Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in to the Mary Ann Hogan Memorial Scholarship c/o the Boys and Girls Club of Schenectady, PO Box 466, Schenectady, NY, 12301, in memory of Kathy.
