SCOTIA:  Lester S. DeVarnne, 78, died Saturday, July 19, 2025, at St. Peter's Hospice Inn. Lester was born in Schenectady to the late Lester J. and Clara M. (Hudson) DeVarnne. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving with the 203 Air Reconnaissance during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Air Medal. He had a career as a carpenter.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years; Jane Gleason DeVarnne, two children; Renee DeVarnne of Scotia and Scott (Jennifer) DeVarnne of Raleigh, NC, five grandchildren; Atteala M. Cassaro, Gina Cassaro and Samuel Cassaro, Steven DeVarnne and Caroline DeVarnne, a nephew; Taylor Thackeray and several other nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 23, 2025, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Gleason Funeral Home. His funeral service will be conducted Thursday, July 24, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial, with military honors, will be in Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans or the Animal Protective Foundation of Schenectady.
