Lois Ough Hyde

Lois Ough Hyde, 95, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center. Lois was born in Cooperstown, NY, on September 6, 1930, and grew up in Little Lakes (Warren), NY. She graduated from Richfield Springs Central School in 1948. Later, she received her license in cosmetology from the Utica School of Beauty.

Lois met the love of her life, Dick Hyde, at a New Year’s Eve party in 1948. They were married on September 2, 1950. They lived in Herkimer, NY, until 2015 when they moved to Kingsway Village in Schenectady.

Lois was a member of the Herkimer Reformed Church for 65 years where she served on the Consistory. She also ushered and taught Sunday school for many years.

Lois was very involved with the Herkimer County Historic Society. Genealogy was her passion. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, baking, playing cards and caring for her family. She loved having family and friends around. Her kindness and compassion made her an excellent advocate for many elderly people who needed help.

She was predeceased by her parents, George and Ruth Ough of Warren, NY; daughter Karen Louise Hyde Paul of Hamburg, NY; sisters Jean (Fredrick) Fox of Canton, OH, and Barbara (Allan) Sinclair of Fairfax, VA; in-laws Alice (Frank) Hughes of Fort Worth, TX; Herbert (Vileita) Hyde of Rexford, NY, and George Rohde of Rochester, NY.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 76 years, Richard G. (Dick) Hyde of Schenectady, NY, and son Richard J. (Andrea) Hyde of Duanesburg, NY.

She had three beloved grandchildren, Carrie Lynn Paul (Mathew) Eberhardt of Columbia, SC; William (Ryan) Paul of Tallahassee, FL; and Jarred (Amy) Hyde of Clifton Park, NY.

Her seven great-grandchildren Nicholas, Emmalyn and Lily Eberhardt; Emerson, Parker and Rockwell Hyde; and Evelyn Paul, were the apple of her eye.

She was very close with her nieces Fredrica Fox Winter of North Canton, OH, and Amy Sinclair Stidham of Fairfax, VA; and her nephew David E. (Patricia) Hyde, of Rexford, NY; sister-in-law Marietta Hyde Rohde of Rochester, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family thanks everyone from Kingsway Community for the kind and wonderful care given to Lois during her last days.
