Obituary

SCHENECTADY: Peter W. Teresco passed away peacefully September 9, 2025 with his loving wife MJ by his side. Peter was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) five years ago and since that time he and MJ coped with the growing effects of LBD with quiet dignity and humor.

Peter was born on June 1, 1943 in Newark, New Jersey to the late Peter and Anne (Mruchak) Teresco. His family moved to Broadalbin, NY when he was a toddler to live in a house built by his grandfather John Teresco. He grew up in Amsterdam, New York where his father owned and operated a downtown gas and service station. The family were avid stock car racers at the Fonda track. As breadwinner for his own family he spent many years working in construction as a foreman and he would sometimes point out projects he had worked on in the region.

Many years ago with the encouragement of MJ his hobby became a vocation, and he transitioned full-time to woodworking and woodcarving. He became known for creating elaborately carved Celtic crosses, the inspiration for which came from a trip to Ireland he and MJ took in the company of lifelong friends.

Over the years his interests led him to join the Schenectady Artists Guild, volunteer at his children's schools, and become a member of the local Grotto of the National Speleological Society. For many years he was the caretaker of the Schoharie Cave field house where he introduced his kids to the wonders of geology, hiking, taught them camp lore, and allowed them to free range to their hearts' delight!

Peter will be remembered as a quiet person who above all valued his "Irish bride" and the many simple pleasures they shared, including countless trips to Plymouth, MA, plus an infinity of drives exploring the world right outside their doorstep.

Peter was a calm and sensitive person whose considerate nature and attention to detail in all his endeavors truly made the world a better place.

He was predeceased by his son Nicholas P. Teresco, a grand-daughter Park, and his brother Doug Teresco.

He is survived by his wife MJ Teresco, three children, PJ (Bruce) Pollard, Kimberly Teresco, and Joshua (Tiffany) Teresco.

Five grandchildren, Rowland (Genevieve), Redmond (Rob), Darby, Meade, and Garner.

Four nephews, Michael (Sheila) Schaninger, James (Cathy) Teresco, Todd (Julieanne) Teresco, and Doug (Megan) Teresco.

And one niece, Susan (Bill) Adair.
