Robert Basil Giedraitis, 96, of Schenectady, passed away on September 28, 2026. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, on Flag Day, June 14, 1930, Robert is now reunited with his wife and soulmate, Margaret (Lafond) Giedraitis.
A devoted father, Robert is survived by his seven loving children: Mary Alice (Michael) Willis, Carol (Wayne) Meyer, John (Cindy) Giedraitis, Linda Anuszewski, William Giedraitis, Thomas (Annie) Giedraitis, and Robert (Mary) Giedraitis Jr. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and his brothers, John and Joseph Giedraitis. One of seven children born to Lithuanian immigrants Joseph and Rose Giedraitis, Robert excelled in school and received a full ROTC scholarship to the College of the Holy Cross. He served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy on the USS Hunt. Following his discharge, he attended the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania where he earned an MBA. He then joined General Electric KAPL in Niskayuna, working in auditing, finance, and contract administration throughout his career.
Robert served as the protector, provider, and spiritual leader for his family. He always kept Jesus in his heart and remained a devoted Roman Catholic throughout his life. Over the years, he served his parish community in many roles at Our Lady of Fatima and St. Kateri Tekakwitha.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, 2216 Rosa Road, Schenectady, on October 5, 2026, at 9 AM. Burial will follow at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, where Robert will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Margaret. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Kateri or the Schenectady City Mission.
