Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Bodenstab, longtime owner of the historic Wallace Armer Hardware store in Schenectady.

For generations, Bob was a familiar and trusted presence in downtown Schenectady.  Following in the footsteps of his father, Clarence Bodenstab, he proudly carried on the family tradition of operating Wallace Armer Hardware, a longtime community institution known for its dependable service, honest advice, and welcoming atmosphere. Through decades of change, Bob remained deeply committed to the city he loved and to the people who depended on him.

Known for his strong work ethic, practical wisdom, and generous spirit, Bob built lasting friendships with customers, neighbors, contractors, and community members throughout his life. He believed Wallace Armer was more than a hardware store — it was part of the fabric of Schenectady — and he took great pride in preserving that legacy for future generations.

Bob was also a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, where his faith and commitment to community remained an important part of his life for many years.

Above all, Bob treasured his family. He and his beloved wife, Myrna, shared 63 years of marriage, building a life centered on family, hard work, faith, and devotion.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Myrna; his children, Wendy, Cherie, and Michael; his grandchildren, Blake, Brianna, Cameron, Tyler, Amelia, and Mikayla; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father, Clarence Bodenstab.

Bob's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the family business he proudly sustained, and the enduring impact he made on the Schenectady community.
