Congers

Obituary

Rose A. (Gentile) Bove, of Congers, New York, quietly passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025, surrounded by loved ones near and far.

Born on March 13, 1934, to Nicholas and Josephine Gentile, Rose grew up in Schenectady, NY, and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1952. Following high school, she attended Russell Sage College, where she earned an Associate's degree. Rose then began her brief career at General Electric, where she worked diligently and formed lifelong friendships.

Rose met the love of her life, John Bove, at Brown's Beach on Saratoga Lake. Together, they raised five beautiful children and built a life shaped by John's successful corporate career, which took their family to Vermont, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Maryland. After John's sudden passing at the age of 44, Rose returned to Schenectady to be near family, who lovingly supported her through this difficult time.

Cherished by her close-knit Italian family, Rose brought warmth, laughter, and love wherever she went. She delighted in life's simple pleasures; cannolis, whoopie pies, all things chocolate, Facebook, and soaking up the sun on warm days. A devoted sports fan, Rose especially loved her beloved Yankees and never missed an opportunity to cheer on her grandchildren at their games and activities. She was the true definition of a loving grandmother.

Rose is lovingly survived by her children: Susan (Mike) Wilkie of Harrison City, PA; Jay (Kathleen) Bove of East Greenbush, NY; Peter (Kathy) Bove of Clayton, NC; and Carla (Johnny) Zambri of Congers, NY. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Gale Bove of Lithia, FL; 17 grandchildren; 7 great-grandsons, with a great-granddaughter on the way; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, John; her son, Christopher; and her sisters, Lucy (Jack) Parks and Jacqueline Weibel.

The family will receive visitors from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Gleason Funeral Home, 730 Union Street, Schenectady, NY. Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026 at St. John The Evangelist Church, 806 Union Street, Schenectady, NY.  Interment will take place after Mass at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 2501 Troy-Schenectady Road, Niskayuna, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to Breakthrough T1D, formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
