Obituary

AMSTERDAM:  Thomas A. Dandrew, 84, passed away at home Friday, October 31, 2025. Tom was born in Troy, NY to the late Thomas A. and Anna Mae Sartoris Dandrew. He was a 1963 graduate of Union College, receiving a bachelor's degree in English. He also received a master's degree in English from The State University of New York at Albany. Tom was a 10th grade English teacher for the Fonda - Fultonville Central School District. He taught for 36 years, retiring in 2002.

He was an avid sports fan, especially the NY Yankees and the NY Giants. He enjoyed horse racing and coached little league in the Bellevue area of Schenectady. He was the head of the local chapter of the Sherlock Holmes Club, known as the Baker Street Irregulars.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Kathleen D. Buscemi and her son, Thomas Buscemi. He is survived by his wife of 35 years; Cynthia King, his son; Shawn N. (Dawn) Dandrew of Schenectady, his sister, Joan Foster Hansen of Rotterdam, two step-children; Laura Kessler of Delmar and Grant (Leah) Kessler of Germany, one granddaughter, Madison Dandrew, two step-grandchildren, Lucia D'Andrade and Gabriel (Hazel) D'Andrade, one great-granddaughter, Eva Cretser three nephews; William (Emilee) Foster, Christopher (Ruthanne) Foster, and Salvatore Buscemi.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated, Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 12:15 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 600 State Street, Schenectady. There will be a calling hour at the church, preceding the mass, from 11 a.m. until 12 noon. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady, following the mass.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery County ASPCA.
