Virginia "Rae" Forster, a lifelong resident of Schenectady, NY, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025. She was living her 100th year with dignity and style, just as she had her entire life. Born on November 5, 1925, Rae was predeceased by her parents, Samuel R. Sr. and Hazel Mae (Decker) Forster, and her brother, Samuel R. Forster Jr.

Rae will be remembered for her impeccable fashion sense, her love of travel, reading, and keeping up with the latest trends, as well as for the kindness and lively spirit she shared so generously with all who knew her.

A graduate of Mont Pleasant High School, Rae went on to attend Syracuse University and Russell Sage College. She began her career at General Electric during World War II, later working many years for the New York Telephone Company in Albany, before serving as Deputy County Clerk for the Schenectady Motor Vehicle Office.

Rae was active in many organizations throughout her life. She was a dedicated member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, where she held many leadership roles, including serving as President. She also belonged to the New York Telephone Pioneers Club and, in 1972, was honored to serve as a delegate to the Republican National Convention. A woman of strong faith, Rae was a longtime member of the Second Reformed Church in Schenectady, where she volunteered in many capacities, including with Sunday School classes. She also devoted time as a volunteer at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital. Rae was a member of the Beukendaal George-Hope Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She held many titles, with 25 years as secretary.

Rae is survived by her sister-in-law, Roxann (Bessel) Forster, her nephew, Ross Forster, niece, Suzanne (Forster) Sackel, great niece Katie Sackel all of Virginia and great nephew Jonathan Sackel of Georgia. She will also be deeply missed by her very close friends with Eastern Star, her cherished circles of friends at the Turf Tavern, Michael Wade who always kept her looking fabulous, her Londonderry Road neighbors, and the compassionate Judson Meadows community.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Gleason Funeral Home in Schenectady. Calling hours will be held immediately prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Rae's life was marked by grace, service, and a spirit that lit up every room she entered. Her legacy of warmth and friendship will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
