NISKAYUNA – William "Bill" J. Dever, 93 of Niskayuna, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 26, 2026.
Born in Boston, MA on September 17, 1932, Bill was the son of Paul and Delia Dever and grew up in Dorchester, MA. In 1957 he graduated from Northeastern University with an engineering degree. After college he entered the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with time spent overseas in Germany and remained in the Army Reserves until 1986 retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel, receiving the Meritorious Service Medal.

In 1963 he married the love of his life, Dorothy Long. Dot and Bill moved to Burlington, VT and in 1970 to Niskayuna, NY where they raised their cherished children, Christopher and Carolyn. In 1974 Bill earned a master's degree in business development at the University of Vermont. He was employed at General Electric for most of his career, then worked at IBM and Clough Harbor Associates before retirement.

Bill was a member of the Schenectady Ancient Order of Hibernians and Knights of Columbus. He and Dot were also members of the Schenectady Curling, Mayfield Yacht, and Edison Golf Clubs. He was a man of great faith, attending and deeply involved in church activities throughout his life.

Most of all, Bill enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. Affectionately known as "Pops," his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren gave him great joy. Vacations to Cape Cod, as well as many other trips, holidays, and events at home were treasured times. He was devoted to his family.

Bill is survived by his two children, Christopher Dever and Carolyn Dever Yetto; six grandchildren, Nicholas (Heather), Ryan (Ashley), Jesse (Samantha), Samuel, Calla, and Nathan Yetto; four great-granddaughters, Josephine, Dorothy, Isla, and Maris Yetto; former son-in-law, Michael Yetto; sister-in-law Jane Dever; nephews, Edward and John; nieces, Trish, Tina, Sheila, and Laura; several cousins, and many dear friends, especially Susan Tindell. He was predeceased by his wife, Dot; his parents Paul and Delia; two brothers, Paul and Robert; and many friends and family he was ready to see again.

Calling hours will be Friday, March 6, 4-7 p.m. at Gleason Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 7 at 10 a.m. in St. Luke's Church, Schenectady with a luncheon immediately following at the Schenectady Hibernian Hall. Burial will be private at Saratoga National Cemetery.
