William “Bill” Francis Zebuda

With hearts filled with our love for Bill, we note his passing on 8/21/2026, after a short illness in the tender care of Mountain Valley Hospice.

William F. (Bill) Zebuda was the first child born to Anne (Domblewski) and Frank Zebuda on March 28, 1942, at Ellis Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Avenue B, attending Franklin School and Oneida Middle School before graduating from the newly opened Linton High School in 1960. Bill then graduated from Albany Business College and was hired next door by the State of New York, Department of State. Everyone in the office knew that Bill always took the entire month of August off to spend at the track. Upon his retirement from 34 years of service, he took driving lessons and set off in his very first car!

He was a lifelong member of Holy Cross RC Church in the Stockade until its closing, serving as an altar boy and lector. Bill then joined St. John the Evangelist, where he served as an usher, Eucharistic minister, and member of the counting committee. After his mother passed away, he became the dedicated caregiver for his father and later for his Aunt Jo Sasinowski. Bill was an avid reader (Schenectady library) and loved Broadway musicals (a supporter of Proctors Theater).

Bill loved all New York sports teams, especially the Yankees and Union College men's hockey. As an avid horse racing fan, he had season clubhouse seats at Saratoga Racetrack and seldom missed a day of racing for over 60 years. The OTB parlors were his favorite "office" with friends.

Bill is survived by his sister, Joyce Anne LaCasse Griffin; his niece and goddaughter Renee Blaney (daughters Anne-Marie Given and Catherine Blaney); nephew Stefan LaCasse (children Rihely, Macklin, and Quentin); as well as many close first cousins and their families.

There will be a calling hour Tuesday, August 25, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Gleason Funeral Home. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, following the calling hour, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 810 Union St., Schenectady. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Rotterdam.
